Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are integrated circuits that contain a variety of configurable logic blocks, interconnected with programmable routing structures. They are considered an alternative to fixed-function logic, as they can be reprogrammed many times as opposed to a one-time application of mask programming. FPGAs are used in many applications such as consumer electronics, telecommunication, automotive, medical and military, as well as many others. 5CEFA4U19I7 is a FPGA developed by Xilinx, that enables hardware designers to rapidly prototype, design and deploy FPGA-based systems.
The 5CEFA4U19I7 is a mid-density FPGA that is characterized as a low-cost, low-power device. This FPGA contains 8,500 Look-Up Tables (LUTs), 18,000 Flip Flops (FFs) and 66 block RAMs to provide logic resources for the designer. It also powers the most complex designs yet, with an 80 MHz.. performance target in only a 7 x 7mm package size. Additionally, 5CEFA4U19I7 consumes 40 percent less power than the previous generation, making it ideal for battery-powered operations.
The 5CEFA4U19I7 employs FPGA fabric, digital signal processing and memory blocks, as well as user-defined I/Os, clock-management and power-management blocks. The FPGA fabric is made up of two types of programmable logic blocks; LUTs and FFs. LUTs perform logical operations on two or more inputs to provide a single output. FFs are used to store the output of a single logic operation and act like an internal memory element. The 5CEFA4U19I7 also has dedicated RAM blocks that are used to store variable data.
The programmable routing structure connects the logic blocks together and provides the user with the ability to define the function of the I/O pins. It also allows for placement of multiple blocks in series or parallel to increase the performance of the device. The combination of programmable resources provides the designer with a high level of flexibility for designing and creating custom solutions in a small package size.
When designing with the 5CEFA4U19I7, designers have access to the Vivado Design Suite. This suite provides tools and features to enable the accelerated development of designs targeting 5CEFA4U19I7 FPGAs. Vivado provides a complete suite of tools such as the Architectural Simulator, Place and Route, Logic Analyzer and Design Manager that interact with the hardware design during development. These tools provide the designer with a single environment for design entry, synthesis, simulation and analysis. Vivado also supports multiple-language design entry, so the user can design for a variety of architectures, or target 5CEFA4U19I7 with RTL, VHDL, Verilog and C.
In summary, the 5CEFA4U19I7 is a small form factor FPGA with a high level of programmable logic and a low power consumption requirement. It is designed to provide the designer with a complete suite of tools for accelerated development, so they can quickly go from design to product. The 5CEFA4U19I7 has been used in many embedded applications such as home automation, industrial control, building automation and medical devices, as well as many other applications.
