Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electronic circuits. They comprise of two metal plates of different diameter – an anode and a cathode – with a thin, gas-permeable separator between them. The larger plate is the anode and the thinner plate is the cathode, and both are connected to the external circuit when the capacitor is placed in use.
