Working Principle
The 74AC191SJX is a synchronous 4-bit binary counter that counts in a binary ripple fashion from 0 to 15. A low-to-high transition at the “UP” input causes the outputs to increment on the low-to-high transition of the clock input. The binary count is loaded into the counter when a low-to-high transition of the Load enable input is coincident with the low-to-high transition of the clock. The outputs are preset to “15” when a low-to-high transition of the Master Reset pin is coincident with the low-to-high transition of the clock. The counter will not be preset if the Load enable pin is low during the low-to-high transition of the Master Reset pin.
The synchronous loading of parallel data into the counter is accomplished by using the Load enable input. When the Load enable input is high, the data present on the Parallel Inputs is loaded into the counter, overriding the count on the next clock rising edge. The data is loaded only when the Load enable input is high and is not loaded if the Load enable input is low.
The 74AC191SJX operates from a single power supply that can range from 2.4 to 5.5 volts. The device is supplied in a standard 14-pin dual in-line package and is rated for operation from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. It can also be specified as a mil-qualified device.
