The 74F161APC is a high-speed synchronous 4-bit binary counter with multiplexed outputs and separate asynchronous loading, ripple clock input, synchronous override and optional reset input. The device features two separate rapidly clocked synchronous 4-bit binary counters, which may be clocked in either ascending or descending sequence. The counters are cleared by the CLRN input and are loaded synchronously by the Load input. The counters are advanced synchronously or in the preset or clear direction when the clock input pulses are applied. The CLRN input will clear and reset all outputs to logic LOW and the load input will synchronously load the data from the D[3:0] inputs into the outputs of the device.

The 74F161APC also features an asynchronous reset option. When the reset input is held LOW, all outputs are LOW. No clock pulses are required to maintain the reset state. In addition, the 74F161APC features a synchronous override function. When the synchronous override input is held LOW, the outputs are forced to the state held on the D0-D3 inputs. This feature allows for easy initiation of states, without requiring clock pulses.
