The 74HC4052PW-Q100 is part of the 74HC family of IC’s (Integrated Circuits) within the ‘Interface’ category and more specifically Analog Switches, Multiplexers and Demultiplexers.

This IC chip consists of two independent 4-channel Multiplexer/Demultiplexers with common select inputs and common Input/Output (I/O) lines. The device can be used to select one bit of data from up to four sources and send it to a common output line. Conversely, multiple data streams can be sent to one bit of input as long as all of the select inputs are changed accordingly.

The 74HC4052PW-Q100 has 4 select inputs (S0-S3), 12 I/O line inputs (I0-I7, Y0-Y3) and 8 I/O line outputs (Y0-Y7). The I0-I7 and Y0-Y7 lines are the single connections for the four independent bidirectional I/O channels. S0-S3 are the select input lines used to determine the data path. When S0, S1, S2 and S3 are all ‘Low’ (logic 0) the data path will be I0-Y0, I1-Y1, I2-Y2, I3-Y3. If S3 is then set to High (Logic 1), the data path will be I0-Y1, I1-Y2, I2-Y3, I3-Y0 and so on.
