74VHC393MX is a dual 4-bit binary ripple counter with decoded "Z" outputs for both sections. This device is most commonly used for counting and advancing a program address in microprocessor-based equipment and for waveform sampling applications. It works on the principle of the Ripple Counter wherein at each clock pulse, the state at each flip flop changes in binary sequence.The 74VHC393MX has two independent 4-bit binary counters (A and B).These outputs are designated as Q0 to Q3. Both sections of the device have synchronous Master Reset inputs (MR) and Clock inputs (CP). CMOS technology is used to make the device low power, high speed and high noise immunity. The 74VHC393MX provides high performance, high speed, medium power, and low-input diode current for any logic family operating at 5V or below. This makes it ideal for use in a wide range of applications, including data acquisition and signal processing, waveform sampling and channel selection, frequency synthesis and program address counter.This device can be used in digital systems with any logic family at 5V or below. Its inputs are TTL compatible, but can also be fed with any logic family at its operating voltage or with mixed voltage circuits, such as 5V and 3V logic, providing logic performance is guaranteed.The output of the 74VHC393MX is in binary form and the decoded binary "Z" outputs ensure timing control in clock cycle counting applications. The latch-up performance of the 74VHC393MX is tested with fast voltage switching to ensure they are suitable for high speed operations. When the Clock input (CP) is low, the device is in a disable state. The outputs remain in their previous states and no count-up or count-down operations can occur. When the Clock input (CP) is high, the device is in an "Enable" state and count-up and count-down operations can take place.The Master Reset input (MR) is used to reset the outputs to a low state irrespective of the count state of the counter. This reset is synchronous, meaning the reset occurs at the same time as the clock "falling edge."The 74VHC393MX can be operated either up to 82 MHz or 8 MHz depending on the application. The device operates in a single-ended or differential environment, providing a low-cost concurrent logic solution in many applications. The 74VHC393MX is the perfect solution to many applications where the design of a complex digital system is not possible due to cost and time constraints. Its quick setup, simple structure, and reliable performance makes it an ideal choice for applications such as pattern recognition, security, robotics, process inspection, and video editing.In summary, the 74VHC393MX is a dual 4-bit binary ripple counter with decoded "Z" outputs.
