RFI and EMI - Contacts, Fingerstock and Gaskets provide an effective means of preventing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) from leaking across boundaries and causing performance degradation, faulty operation or complete failure of equipment.

The 78085103 application field and working principle is based on the concept of conduction of electrons, the passage of which can create an electromagnetic field, radiating outwards from the device\'s electronic component. A common example is the current flowing through a power cable. If a wire is wrapped around the power cable and is connected to ground, the interference from the radiating electromagnetic field can be blocked; hence, any EMI and RFI from entering the machine is reduced.

Fingerstock is quite suitable for use in this application field. It is a thin, flexible film of metal applied in layers, or sections, to a substrate such as plastic, rubber or paper. The thinness of fingerstock lends itself to being used between components where clearance and/or insertion depth is critical and vibration or shock-resistance is essential. It also reduces the possibility of an electrical short caused by metal particles entering the contacts. Fingerstock is typically used for shielding cables, filters, switches, and other electrical and electronics components.

EMI and RFI Gaskets, sometimes referred to as \'fingerstock gaskets\', are an effective solution to EMI and RFI leakage and provide a secure connection between two components. When sandwiched between two metal surfaces, an EMI/RFI gasket can create a Faraday cage, i.e. a barrier which prevents electromagnetic signals (radiation) from entering or exiting the system. The gaskets are formed to the correct shape and size to fit each connection, and usually provide an electrical contact between the two components. In this way, they ensure that any errant interference is effectively blocked, without affecting the operation of the setup.

These materials provide an effective and reliable means of preventing interference from entering or leaving the device, and are suitable for a wide range of applications in which there is a need for a secure connection with high resistance to vibration and shock. They can also be used to protect from dust, humidity and other environmental factors. The selection of the optimal contact, fingerstock and gasket materials should be done after considering the application, the frequencies involved, the environment in which the device will be used, etc.
