Limit Switches

Limit switches are electromechanical devices used to detect the presence of objects in a given area. The switch is operated by a lever which is attached to a contact and an actuator, typically a plunger or lever. When the switch is triggered, it sends a signal which is then used to activate, deactivate, or even measure the properties of the item that triggered it. Limit switches are found in many different applications and are used to control electrical devices, monitor movement, and record positional information.

The most common type of limit switch uses a plunger-type actuator, which is linked to one or more contacts. Robotic arms and other robotic devices rely on limit switches to detect the edges of the workspace and to detect contact with items in the environment. They are also used to measure the position, speed, and acceleration of robotic components.
