Snap Action, Limit Switches

Snap action switches have a number of applications, including process control, switching power between different sources, and sensing the presence of a particular variable. They can also be used to detect pressure or force changes in an environment, such as a moving conveyor belt or electronic component. The switch itself is a mechanical device that relies on a physical component, such as a spring or other type of physical contact (or even a vacuum), to make contact when a certain force is applied.

Limit switches are also often used in sophisticated electronic systems to monitor the movement of electronic components in order to detect any errors or malfunctions. For example, a limit switch can be used to monitor the position of a digital servo motor that controls the position of a sensor or other component. If the motor moves outside of its normal operating range, the limit switch will send a signal to the system and the motor can be re-positioned again.
