Snap Action, Limit Switches

A snap action switch is an electromechanical switch that is triggered when an external object hits the switch lever. It has a quickly moving component in it, which turns the switch from the off to the on position, or vice versa, upon contact. The basic feature of these switches is that they spring back to their original position either when contact is made or broken. They are also known as limit switches because they are often used to limit range or motion of motion-based objects.

The working principle of a snap action switch is based on three basic components, namely, the actuator, a spring, and an electrical contact.
