Snap Action, Limit Switches

Snap action, limit switches are electromechanical devices designed to detect the presence or absence of objects, position, or movement of parts. They are commonly used to actuate or detect the position of a physical object or objects, such as in a door or window position switch. When the object or part is in the desired location, the switch will activate, providing an electrical signal to the machine or system controlling the action.

A robot may use the switch for a variety of tasks such as detecting an end-of-arm tool, determining the robot arm’s position, or even for grasping an object. The actuator is typically integrated directly onto the robot’s arm, which avoids the need for additional cabling, and thus improves system reliability.
