Reed Relays
A reed relay is an electromechanical switch consisting of a coil surrounding a ferromagnetic and hermetically sealed reed switching element. The reed switch (also known as a “contact”) operates with two contact blades, typically made of magnetically soft material such as nickel-iron alloy. When an electric current is applied to the coil, it magnetizes the reed switch causing the two contact blades to move together. The two contact blades are separated again when the electric current is removed. The reed switch’s contact blades are then capable of opening and closing a contact very quickly and accurately without any wear.Application Field
Reed relays are a reliable and cost-effective switch solution which can be used for a wide variety of applications. The reed relays can be used with both AC and DC current and can switch power up to 1 A and up to 30 V. Their hermetically sealed reed components make them extremely resistant to dirt, dust, sand, and humidity.Reed relays have a number of advantages over traditional mechanical relays. They are more reliable, responsive, accurate, and have a longer lifetime – up to 10x longer than traditional mechanical relays – and require low power consumption. They are used in a number of areas, including industrial and automotive applications, smart grid applications, home automation systems, test and measuring equipment, medical machines, and other consumer electronics devices.Working Principle
The working principle behind the reed relay involves the application of a magnetic field on a ferromagnetic material (in this case, a “reed switch”). When a charge is applied to the reed switch, it magnetizes the reed switch and causes the two contact blades to move together. When the current is removed, the contact blades are returned to their original positions. When a current flows through the wattage coil of the relay, a magnetic field is generated around the coil. The magnetic field created by the coil is strong enough to attract the magnetically sensitive material of the reed switch, and cause the contact blades to move together. When the current is removed, the reeds are no longer magnetized and the contact blades are returned to their original positions. The power can then be switched on or off by connecting the reed switch to the circuit.Reed relays offer many advantages over traditional mechanical switching systems. Their hermetically sealed components make them extremely resistant to dust, dirt, sand, and humidity, and their long life cycle makes them very reliable and accurate. They also have excellent switching speed and low power consumption, which makes them ideal for a wide variety of industrial and automotive applications. The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
