The distance calculation is based on the round-trip time of the infrared pulse. The round-trip time is converted to time interval as an electrical signal, and then the Timing Interval Counter (TIC) is used to measure the pulse width ratio (PWR). The PWR is then used to calculate the distance, giving the device its millimeter accuracy and range from 100 cm to 3 m.
