The PMIC - Motor Drivers, Controllers, have made it possible to control, regulate and monitor more motors than ever before, while maintaining efficient power supply. The A3964SLBTR-T is one such product. This device communicates with a system\'s host MCU via the I2C Serial Interface. It provides both a current-mode PWM and a voltage-mode PWM, allowing it to easily control three-phase brushless and DC motors.

A3964SLBTR-T is a three-phase brushless DC motor controller with all the features expected in motor controller. It provides an array of features designed to save power, reduce noise and heat, and optimize performance in various motor systems.

Designed using advanced high-frequency CMOS technology, A3964SLBTR-T includes a five-bit general-purpose DAC for digital current sensing and control, a four-bit general-purpose DAC for digital voltage sensing and control, and a digital gated current-mode PWM-output for voltage or current control.

The A3964SLBTR-T also includes a variable-frequency PWM output for speed control as well as a current limit circuit to protect the motor from overloads. The device also features a protection circuit to ensure system safety and is designed to operate with a variety of low cost external motor and motor control components.

The A3964SLBTR-T’s application field is mainly focused on automotive DC Motors, BLDC Motors, HVAC (Heating ventilation air conditioning) Motors and Pool Pump Motors. The A3964SLBTR-T provides all the features necessary to control, optimize and monitor the performance of these motors in a variety of applications.

The working principle of A3964SLBTR-T is based on a three-phase brushless motor PWM control technique, using dedicated logic and algorithms, along with digital current and voltage sensing capabilities.

The three-phase brushless DC motor is driven by three switching transistors, each allowing for control of the current flow in that specific phase of the motor. With the A3964SLBTR-T, a digital PWM waveform is used to control the three switching transistors. This PWM waveform is generated by the A3964SLBTR-T’s quadrant digital gated current-mode PWM output.

The A3964SLBTR-T’s voltage-mode output allows it to regulate the voltage applied to the motor. This mode is combined with a general-purpose DAC, allowing the user to monitor and control the voltage level applied to the motor.

The A3964SLBTR-T’s speed output is used for closed loop control of the motor speed. This output operates at various frequencies and is combined with a general-purpose DAC to set the speed of the motor.

The A3964SLBTR-T also features a current limit circuit, designed to protect the motor from overloads. This circuit monitors the motor current and, if a predetermined limit is exceeded, automatically shuts down the motor. This protection feature can also be used to predict abnormal motor behavior and initiate corrective action if needed.
