The A3966SLBTR-T from Allegro MicroSystems is a 3A low voltage microstepping motor driver with integrated power MOSFETs, for driving bipolar stepper motors in full, half, quarter, 8th and 16th-step modes. It is specifically designed for use in harsh environments as it is AEC-Q100 qualified and has integrated protection against over-temperature, under-voltage, over-voltage and over-current faults. It is also capable of detecting broken motor wires and can be externally current-limited. It is ideal for a variety of automotive and consumer motor control applications.

The A3966SLBTR-T can be used in a variety of motor control applications. It is particularly suitable for driving DC and brushless DC motors in automotive applications such as integrated tailgate lifts and seat control systems, central locking mechanisms and actuator platforms. It can also be used in consumer/home applications such as HVAC fans, window blinds and security cameras. As it is capable of operating at low voltages, it is also suitable for industrial and robotics applications.

The A3966SLBTR-T is based on a BCDMOS process which offers low on-resistance, fast switching speed, with high energy efficiency and long-term reliability. It has a control system which includes built-in oscillator and current sense and features a highly efficient, pulse-width modulated (PWM) bipolar stepper motor driver.

The A3966SLBTR-T has a working voltage range of 5.5V to 40V, and it is capable of driving a motor with a phase current of up to 3A. It also supports a wide range of microstepping modes, with a resolution up to 1/16 step. The device also features on-chip thermal shutdown circuitry which protects against over-temperature conditions.

In addition, the A3966SLBTR-T also features a selectable step/direction logic level which allows the output signal to be adjusted to match the logic level of the host microcontroller. Additionally, the device has an integrated thermal shutdown which will promptly turn off the output if an over-temperature event occurs.
