ACNW3410-000E Isolators - Gate Drivers

ACNW3410-000E is an isolator type gate driver IC from Fairchild\'s optically-coupled isolator family that offers a high impedance input buffer, low propagation delay and propagation delay matching. It is used for driving a MOSFET or IGBT gate, as well as for coupling low power digital and analog signals between systems of different potential.

Application Field

These gate drivers are often used in applications that require coupling between power electronic systems, such as motor drives, inverters, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). It is also designed into switch mode power supplies and waveform converters, for load switch and switching regulator applications, and for measuring, controlling and switching any type of AC or DC load. It can be used in two modes (normal mode and floating mode) wherein it can interface between two circuits of different potentials without the need for an external power or ground connection. It can also be used in optical isolation in high voltage Battery Charger systems and in optocoupler/photo-diode applications.

Working Principle

ACNW3410-000E works through the principle of electro-optical isolation, wherein light is used to transmit information from source to load. This means that the electrical channel of the isolator is separated from the optical channel or coupled region.The two optically coupled transistors of the isolator are mounted in a plastic package comprising a gallium arsenide infrared emitter and an integrated detector. Inside the package, light is transmitted from the emitter side to the detector side. The emitter side is fed with current from the input signal that affects the light intensity along the optical axis. On the detector side, this light intensity is converted to current and this current is then used to drive the output circuit of the isolator.When the input signal is applied to the input side of the isolator, the input transistor draws current and generates light that gets modulated by the input signal, which is then converted to an output voltage by the output transistor. Hence, it reflects the input signal at the output. The output is also completely isolated from the input and the output voltage is proportional to the input voltage, regardless of the electrical isolation of the two sides.This is the basic working principle of the ACNW3410-000E isolator. Its advanced features like wide common mode range, low propagation delay, and short circuit protection make it ideal for a variety of applications. It can operate in the temperature range of -40°C to +105°C and in relative humidity of 5% to 95%.
