Digital isolators are devices used to provide electrical isolation between two systems. The AD261BND-4 is a monolithic digital isolator designed specifically to provide bidirectional isolating protection for data lines in battery–powered systems. The AD261BND-4 uses high frequency, capacitively-coupled transmission lines to enable bidirectional data transfer between two circuits. The AD261BND-4 consists of a control logic circuit, a clamping circuit, and a clamping control circuit. The control logic circuit is responsible for determining the logic levels of the connected lines and encoding them into serial data. The clamping circuit is used to block the voltage created by the control logic circuit from propagating to the other side of the device. Finally, the clamping control circuit is responsible for the control of the clamping operation.
The AD261BND-4 features a low current operating mode that reduces current consumption to only 2.5 mA. This allows the device to be used in battery–powered systems with minimal impact on battery life. Additionally, the device provides accurate timing of data transfer operations, with a typical delay of 8 μs over an operating temperature range of -40° to +125°C. This allows for fast and reliable data transfer between the two systems connected to each side of the isolation barrier.
