Working Principle

The AD7091R-8BRUZ-RL7 contains a high-resolution, 8-bit SAR ADC core capable of converting analog signals in the range 0V to 5V. It consists of a capacitive array, comparator, digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and a decoder. The capacitive array is composed of several capacitors, each with a corresponding switch. The comparator compares the input voltage with a reference voltage generated by the DAC.

When the input voltage is greater than the reference voltage, the corresponding switch is opened, and the corresponding capacitor is then discharged, resulting in a decrease in the capacitance. This process is repeated till the capacitor reaches a point where the comparator finally detects the change and generates a logic output. This logic output is then decoded and the corresponding 8-bit code is obtained.
