AD7712AR is an important component among data acquisition systems. It is a high-precision, low-noise, lower power 16-bit SAR (Successive Approximation Register) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) integrated circuit that is generally categorized under Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC). The AD7712AR is mainly used in industrial, instrumentation, and medical applications.The AD7712AR device is a low power, compact ADC with conversion speeds up to 120 kSPS (kilo-sample per second). The device has a very low power supply requirement of 2.7 V and 3 V and a wide supply range. It can also be operated in a single supply as low as 2.7 V. The power dissipation is an average of 87 mW at 120kSPS and a maximum of 191 mW at 500kSPS (kilo-sample per second). The device offers excellent power efficiency in both the ADC and reference operation by using the latest generation of BiCMOS technology. It also offers superior performance in terms of offset and linearity error.The main purpose of the AD7712AR is to convert analog signals into digital signals. The ADC performs the conversion of linear input signals into PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) outputs. It also offers a ramp generator and multiple gain amplification stages, which help in maintaining the accuracy of the output signals. The device offers a wide range of input voltage levels that are programmable from 0 V to 5V. It also offers an amount of extra headroom before saturation can occur.The working principle of the AD7712AR ADC is to use successive approximation ADC technology to achieve its output. The successive approximation technique involves the comparison of input voltage with a series of reference voltage levels. The reference voltages are sequentially shifted until the input voltage matches one of them. By comparing the input voltage with the voltage levels and counting the number of times in which it has been shifted, it is possible to determine the output code.As the AD7712AR ADC offers high performance with a low power requirement, it can be easily incorporated into a range of applications such as motor control, data acquisition systems, medical imaging systems, vibration/acceleration sensors, gas/pressure sensors, and communication systems.
