The AD7713AR is a low-power, low-noise, low-drift, differential input analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for data acquisition applications in industrial, automotive, and commercial systems. It offers a 1-channel single-ended input and up to 16-bit resolution. The ADC’s single-ended input and differential voltage inputs allows designers to maximize flexibility, minimize noise, and minimize cost when building applications such as bridge, strain gauge, and accelerometer-based systems. Additionally, the design of the ADC allows designers to take advantage of the AD7713AR features and capabilities while preserving the dynamic range, speed, and minimal power consumption required in these systems.The AD7713AR is controlled and interfaced via the SPI and I2C, which offers an easy and reliable method of controlling and monitoring the data acquisition process. Through these interfaces, the AD7713AR features programmable options such as gain range, settling time, and offset adjust. Additionally, the device features firmware-controlled acquisition speed and a programmable filter that allows designers to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).The AD7713AR has been designed for applications where low power consumption and low noise are critical. This device is designed to be used in applications in which the performance of an ADC matters more than the speed of conversion. The AD7713AR is especially well suited for applications that require low-power operation and/or dynamic range and performance in low-light/background lighting applications, such as ambient light sensors, CCD/CMOS cameras, photoelectric sensors, human-machine interfaces, and pressure sensors.The AD7713AR operates on a supply voltage of 5V and typically consumes only 120 μA of current in single-ended input mode and 800 μA in differential input mode. The AD7713AR is also highly accurate, offering a maximum offset error of 0.3mV, a maximum gain error of 0.007%, and a maximum integral nonlinearity (INL) error of 0.3 LSB. It operates at sampling rates up to 70 ksps with an SFDR (Spurious-Free Dynamic Range) of 91 dB.The working principle of the AD7713AR is based on a successive-approximation-register (SAR) architecture. This type of ADC uses a similar comparison process to look for the voltage that corresponds to the closest digital code in a linear input range. In order to start the conversion, the user will first need to set the gain range and adjust the offset. The ADC then begins to search for the most suitable voltage by taking different voltage samples and comparing them to a reference voltage. The ADC will then record the voltage that is closest to the reference voltage and report this value as the digital result.The AD7713AR is a robust and highly accurate single-ended differential input ADC that offers excellent performance in data acquisition applications such as strain gauge, bridge, and accelerometer systems.
