The AD7716-DF is a low-power, multi-channel, high-speed, 16-bit resolution Analog-to-Digital Converter with a wide range of outputs. It is the successor to the AD7715, a popular and widely used ADC. The AD7716-DF features 16-bit resolution and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It has a wide input range from 3.3V DC to 10V DC and multiple input types, including single-ended/differential mode, current/voltage mode, PWM/sine wave, and linear/logarithmic mode. The output is configurable between 12-bit, 16-bit, and 24-bit resolution.
The AD7716-DF achieves its high data acquisition rate by utilizing a continuous-time sigma delta modulator. This technique allows the ADC to sample data points at a frequency far beyond that of traditional Alternating-Current (AC)/Direct-Current (DC) inputs. The continuous-time sigma delta modulator uses an analog-to-digital conversion technique known as oversampling. By increased the frequency at which each data sample is taken, the ADC is able to achieve greater accuracy and higher resolution results. The higher the frequency at which the ADC operates, the greater its accuracy. The AD7716-DF operates at the highest sample rate of any ADC, with a maximum sample rate of 32 kS/s and a conversion speed of up to 20 kS/s.
The AD7716-DF also features low power consumption. It can run on a 3V battery for up to 10 hours and still be able to read data accurately. Furthermore, the AD7716-DF’s small size allows it to be placed inside a range of devices, such as cellular phones, portable music players, household appliances, and other small electronics.
