.Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) is a type of electronic device used to convert analog signals into digital signals. Generally, there are two types of ADC which are the flash type and the successive approximation type. The AD7888ARZ-REEL is an 8-bit, single-channel, high-speed, successive approximation ADC integrated circuit (IC) which belongs to the ‘7000 series’ from Analog Devices that uses a type of successive approximation A/D converter.The AD7888ARZ-REEL is an 8-bit A/D converter that converts analog input signals into a multiple of 256 digital output codes (8 bits). The maximum sampling rate of the converter is 70MS/s. The converter has an accuracy of 10 ppm.The chief application of this A/D converter is in industrial process control systems, medical equipment, instrumentation, test equipment, industrial automation and so on. The AD7888ARZ-REEL chip is designed tooperate with low power and is compatible with the 3 V to 5.5 V CMOS interface. The converter also supports sample-and-hold operation.The working principle of the AD7888ARZ-REEL is based on the successive approximation converter. It comes with an on-chip reference voltage, an analog input multiplexer, and a successive approximation register (SAR). It also has a control logic and an 8-bit output latch.The SAR is an integrated circuit which is used to convert an analog signal into a digital signal. It works by comparing the analog input with the reference voltage. The reference voltage is compared to the analog input signal and the comparator output is used for setting the SAR register. When the SAR has finished comparing the two inputs, the SAR provides a logical output to indicate the completion of the conversion. The control logic works by enabling the SAR circuit to process a single conversion cycle. The logic reads the analog input, compares it to the reference voltage, and writes the corresponding 8-bit output code to the output latch. The output latch holds the 8-bit digital code until it is read by the external microprocessor.The AD7888ARZ-REEL chip is designed to be low power and is compatible with the 3 V to 5.5 V CMOS interface. The converter supports Sample-and-Hold operation which allows the analog signal to be held and then converted when the conversion request is made.The AD7888ARZ-REEL is a high-speed, 8-bit A/D converter with broad application in industrial process control systems, medical equipment, instrumentation, test equipment, industrial automation and so on.
