The AD7896ARZ-REEL is an 8-bit, low-power, successive approximation type analog-to-digital converter. It is designed to operate from a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply, and is available in an 8-lead SOIC package. It is intended for use in a wide variety of applications, including process control, medical, instrumentation, and communication systems.The AD7896ARZ-REEL is an 8-bit, successive approximation type Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) designed to operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply. The AD7896ARZ-REEL has an onboard reference and internal reference buffer for single-supply applications. It offers seven input ranges from ±2.048 V to ±20.48 V, operates on a wide range of frequencies from 400 kHz to 48 kHz, and has a single-ended or differential input. The device is available with low conversion time, low power consumption, and excellent accuracy and linearity performance.The AD7896ARZ-REEL has a few different operating modes. The reference is user-selectable through one or more control lines. The device can be put into a “capture mode”, where the input is latched for successive reads. The “capture mode” is particularly useful for fast, hybrid analog-to-digital conversion that retains noise-free operation. Additionally, the “capture mode” offers a burst mode readout for applications such as ADC instrumentation and display.The AD7896ARZ-REEL has a Good Conversion Performance (GC) timer which ensures good conversion performance. This timer consists of a bottom-shifter and a horizontal counter. The bottom-shifter is used to start the conversion at the beginning of a slow cycle. This allows the ADC to start reading during the second half of the slow cycle, where the conversion is guaranteed to be accurate. The horizontal time is then used to calculate the conversion time accurately.
