Working Principle
At the heart of the chip is an advanced 24-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that is capable of generating extremely low quantization noise and ripple. This is accomplished through a combination of Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) encoding, which reduces quantization noise, as well as advanced digital interpolation techniques. As a result, the AD9162BBCA is capable of producing highly accurate and repeatable analog signals for most data acquisition operations.
To provide its highest resolution, the DAC utilizes a 16-bit DAC with four bits of linearity correction (LFC). This LFC is used to compensate for the inherent non-linearity of the DAC due to the device mismatch in the resistors that make up the LFC ladder. This compensation results in a DAC with a specified accuracy of 0.05% over its entire temperature range.
In addition to its basic D/A functions, the chip has various built-in features that make it ideal for many acquisition systems. These features include a twos-complement digital-to-analog converter, a dynamic input range, gain and offset control, and a slew-rate-controlled output buffer. All of these features can be combined to create a wide range of accurately generated analog signals.
