Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) are one of the most important devices when it comes to data acquisition. They allow signals in analog form to be converted into digital signals, which can then be interpreted and analyzed by a computer. The AD9245BCPZRL7-20 is a 16-bit ADC converter. Working Principle
The AD9245BCPZRL7-20 employs a differential input architecture with a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA) and an offset correction to minimize system gain and offset error in the input signal. The PGA gain is selectable from +1 to +128, or +1/2 to +64 depending on the selected unipolar or bipolar mode. The converter has a built-in programmable reference buffer and an internal reference of 2.048V. It is capable of single-ended or differential input. The device has a high sampling rate and output data rate up to 1Msps, depending on the resolution and speed requirements.
To start conversion, a high speed clock is first applied at the CNV terminal to start an internal conversion clock (ICC). Then, a digital logic signal is applied to the corresponding digital architecture logic gates on the ADC input. This signal is then multiplied by the PGA gain and then converted into an analog signal. The analog signal is then inputted into the internal single-ended input and then a differential signal is formed between the two ADC inputs, given by VINp−VINn. This differential signal is then digitized through an internal A/D converter. The converted data is then outputted after all conversion stages have been completed. The output data is then synchronized with the internal ICC signal, given by 1 bit for every clock period.
