The versatile AD9628-125EBZ evaluation board enables quick and easy evaluation of the AD9628-125 high-speed, low-power, 8-channel, 12-bit sampling analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This board can be used as a starting point for the user to evaluate the ADC performance and explore its features and capabilities. The evaluation board includes a small form-factor PC board, an adjustable low-noise power supply, and the evaluator software, which simplifies the evaluation of the AD9628-125 ADC converter.
The AD9628-125EBZ ADC converter’s application field includes high-speed data acquisition boards, communication systems, portable data-loggers, instrumentation, and digital test and measurement, as well as digital signal processing (DSP) applications. It is also suitable in other applications such as precision sensing, industrial automation, MRI and CT imaging, and high-speed control.
The main features of the AD9628-125EBZ ADC converter include low power consumption, high speed, low noise, and low distortion characteristics. It has a sampling rate of up to 1.25 Gsps, with an input signal range between 0.01 to 25.4V peak-to-peak. The AD9628-125EBZ also has an excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 80dB and a signal-to-distortion ratio (SDR) of 62dB at full power. In addition, the AD9628-125EBZ features a low total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.6%, a 6-bit reverse-polarity protection, and an adjustable reference voltage range.
The AD9628-125EBZ ADC converter follows a multiple-stage architecture. The first stage is an amplifier that is used to level shift and condition the input signal to be suitable for the subsequent stages of the conversion process. The second stage is a high-speed analog-to-digital (A/D) quantizer which samples the input signal and produces a 12-bit digital word output. The third stage consists of the decimation filter which reduces the noise and enlarges the signal separation. Finally, the data is output to the digital interface.
The evaluation board also provides a reference clock input which is used to control the sampling rate of the ADC. The reference clock is generated by an internal or external source and is used to synchronize the sampling rate of the ADC with the digitization process in the data acquisition system. The board also includes a built-in programmable gain amplifier (PGA) to adjust the gain of the amplifier before the ADC heats up. This results in a higher SNR of the ADC output.
The AD9628-125EBZ evaluation board is designed to simplify the evaluation, characterization, and debugging of high-speed, low-noise and low-distortion analog-to-digital data converters.
