Data Acquisition (DAQ) is one of the most important and common aspects of modern digital engineering. It involves collecting, processing, and storing data from physical sources such as sensors, transducers, and other analog and digital devices. Analog Front End (AFE) is a specialized Integrated Circuit (IC) designed to adapt analog signals to the digital environment. The ADAS1000-2BCPZ consists of two main components: the Digital I/O unit and the Analog Front End (AFE). The Digital I/O unit is composed of digital peripheral circuits that interface with microcontroller-based systems, such as ARM® Cortex®-M0 microcontrollers and other popular embedded microcontrollers. This unit contains all the necessary circuits for performing basic data acquisition tasks, such as receiving and transmitting data, sampling data, and generating interrupts. The Digital I/O unit also provides a range of power management features, such as a power down mode and low-power sleep mode.
The ADAS1000-2BCPZ’s Analog Front End comprises two channels that operate in parallel. Each of these channels has two differential inputs, one for measuring current and the other for measuring voltage, and an optional digitizer for further information about the signal. The AFE provides a programmable gain amplifier that can be used to select the gain of the amplifier for each channel. This allows the user to match the input range of the signal to the input range of the Analog-to-Digital converter (ADC). In addition, each channel includes a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for calibration and background calibration.
The ADAS1000-2BCPZ also includes a software development kit (SDK) for building application-specific solutions. The SDK provides drivers for the programmable peripherals, as well as a set of signal processing functions. These signal processing functions can be used to further process the acquired signal before it is sent to the Microcontroller. This allows users to develop applications that can accurately measure and monitor a wide range of power signals.
