It can control a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) to synthesize a wide range of frequencies in the range of 0.5Hz to 32GHz.How Does ADF4106BRU Work?
ADF4106BRU uses a phase-locked loop (PLL) to synthesize frequencies. It does this by using an integratedfrac-n synthesizer loop with a phase detector, 5-bit divider, loop filter, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). Firstly, the reference frequency (REFIN) is divided down by the 5-bit divider, creating a prescaler frequency. This prescaler frequency is then compared to the VCO frequency at the phase detector.When there is a mismatch between the two frequencies, the phase detector produces a correction signal. This signal is then fed into the loop filter, which in turn produces a voltage that controls the VCO frequency. As the VCO frequency is adjusted, the phase detector will eventually show no mismatch and the loop will be locked.The phase-locked loop also allows for an officially-enabled integer or fractional reference frequency. An additional 0.25 LSB function allows users to fine tune the frequency accuracy, enabling tight control of the output frequency in order to achieve the highest performance.Pros of ADF4106BRU
