To meet such various needs of engineers, ADI has released ADF4111BRU, one of the most precise, integrated clock synthesizer solutions in the world. It can provide a precise, low-noise, low-power and reliable clock generation for numerous applications.
The ADF4111BRU is a low-power, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) clock synthesizer with a fractional-N frequency synthesizer and integrated voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). It operates in two modes, integer-N and fractional-N, to provide higher tuning resolution while maintaining low noise floor in integer-N mode. The clock synthesizer features both Analog Devices’ proprietary 5th order Delta-Sigma Modulator (ΔΣM) fractional-N loop and a high-frequency, matched Transconductance Amplifier (TCA) tuning system to deliver best-in-class performances to optimize the jitter, frequency stability and reference spur management for systems. It also provides feedback for VCO current and requires few external components, optimizing size and total cost.
The ADF4111BRU is especially suitable for applications that require low noise, low jitter and wideband output, such as microwave point-to-point links, 5G base station, communication systems, broadband access and instrumentation. In microwave point-to-point links, the ADF4111BRU can provide precise, robust, low-noise clock-generation solution. Using a 5th order Delta-Sigma Modulator (ΔΣM) Loop and a high-frequency, matched Transconductance Amplifier (TCA) combination, it can provide an optimized, low-noise clock for communication systems, such as 5G base stations. It also offers a wide frequency band capability and excellent frequency stability.
Many components from discrete components to signal conditioners, data converters and clock generators have been integrated on ADF4111BRU to provide a high-performance clock-generating solution for plenty of applications. It is designed with a low-power, robust, low-jitter, wideband clock source, making it ideal for broadband access, instrumentation, microwave point-to-point links, and 5G cellular communications.
The working principle of the ADF4111BRU is based on the phase-locked loop (PLL), a closed-loop control mechanism. In the phase-locked loop, the phase of the reference signal is compared with the phase of the generated signal. When the two signals are locked in phase, an error signal is generated when the two signals become out of phase. The error signal is then used to adjust the frequency of the generated signal until the two signals are in phase again. The PLL then controls the generated signal to keep the phase in lock with the reference signal, thus providing stable and precise clock frequency.
