Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers have many applications in communications, computers and other kinds of electronic systems. The ADF4360-7BCPZ is a highly efficient and cost-effective fractional-N Phase Locked Loop (PLL) IC, used for frequency synthesizing applications that require very wide tuning ranges, low phase noise and low power consumption. The ADF4360-7BCPZ is a fractional-N PLL IC manufactured by Analog Devices. It is a versatile PLL device designed to synthesize frequencies over a wide dynamic frequency range. It is designed to be able to tune a frequency over a very wide range, while still achieving very low noise and low power. This PLL is well-suited for a variety of frequency synthesis applications such as frequency hoppers, mobile phone frequency hopscotch and military communications. The ADF4360-7BCPZ consists of an analog phase/frequency detector, a low-noise charge pump, a dual modulus prescaler, a voltage-controlled oscillator, and a programmable frequency divider. The analog phase/frequency detector compares the two input signals, the reference clock and the output signal of the PLL, and generates an control voltage proportional to the phase and frequency difference. This voltage is sent to the charge pump. The charge pump is a low-noise current controlled oscillator. It is used to generate a proportional current to charge or discharge the loop filter, which tunings the center frequency of the loop. The dual modulus prescaler is a frequency divider with two programmable division ratios which is used to divide down the output of the charge pump.The VCO is a voltage-controlled oscillator. It is a circuit whose output frequency is controlled by the input voltage. It is used to generate the output signal of the PLL loop. The frequency divider is used to generate the divide-by-N output of the PLL. It is programmed to divide the output frequency of the VCO by the desired amount. The ADF4360-7BCPZ has an operating frequency of 1.8 GHz and a tuning range of 1.1 to 7.8 GHz. Its frequency range can be divided into eight bands with a minimum tuning step size of 31.25 kHz.
