Description

The ADL5375 is a broadband quadrature modulator designed to operate from 400 MHz to 6 GHz. Its excellent phase accuracy and amplitude balance characteristics enable it to provide high performance IF or direct RF modulation for communication systems. The ADL5375 has a wide baseband bandwidth with output gain flatness that does not vary more than 1 dB from 450 MHz to 3.5 GHz. These features, along with a broadband output return loss of ≤-12 dB, make the ADL5375 ideal for broadband zero-IF or low-IF-to-RF applications, broadband digital predistortion transmitters, and multiband radio designs. The ADL5375 accepts two differential baseband inputs and a single-ended LO. It produces a single-ended 50 Ω output. The two versions are available with input baseband bias levels of 500 mV (ADL5375-05) and 1500 mV (ADL5375-15). The ADL5375 is fabricated using an advanced silicon germanium bipolar process. It is available in a 24-lead, exposed pad, Pb-free LFCSP_VQ package. It is specified for operation over the −40°C to +85°C temperature range. A Pb-free evaluation board is also available.

Key points of design

   1. LO drive requirements:

       - Recommended drive level: 0dBm ±3dB

       - Required DC blocking capacitor: 100nF (C0G material)

   2. Baseband processing:

       - It is recommended to use differential drivers such as ADA4927

       - A matching network is required to eliminate DC bias
