The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 RF Modulator is a high-performance, single-chip, low-power CMOS modulator designed to drive RF power amplifiers for ISM band applications with the same wide operating range of 11 to 18 dBm. This modulator is also designed with a current limiter, a limiting amplifier, a linearizing amplifier, a low-noise preamplifier, a temperature-compensated reference diode, and other features. The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 can be used in various types of applications ranging from wireless communication to automotive, medical, and industrial fields.Applications
The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 RF Modulator is suitable for ISM band applications which require the highest levels of performance and reliability. These include, but are not limited to, professional broadcast and medical imaging systems, ISM band applications such as remote control, wireless sensor networking, automotive applications, remote healthcare monitoring systems, and Wi-Fi networks. Due to its high performance, it can also be used in other demanding applications such as microwave radio and cellular network base stations.The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 is also used for high data rate applications. By transmitting information with very low intermodulation distortion and low side-band noise, this modulator is suitable for digital radio systems with high channel capacity or signal-to-noise ratio, such as digital radio systems and digital television broadcast.Due to its low RF power consumption and very high linearity, the ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 is also suitable for power efficient high-power applications such as Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) signals and Low Intermodulation (LIM) systems.Working Principle
The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 RF Modulator is based on a direct-conversion architecture. This architecture simplifies the system and reduces the radiation taking place in the modulation process. The direct-conversion modulation principle is based on the fact that the output signal directly falls and rises in time with the phase and amplitude of the modulating signal. This type of modulation can be used in a variety of applications and is known for its high efficiency and low spectral regrowth.In the ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 RF Modulator, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is used to generate a RF waveform that is modulated according to the input amplitude and phase of the modulating signal. This modulated signal is then amplified by a complex power amplifier (PA) to drive the output power amplifier. The complex PA consists of an error amplification stage that compensates for the distortion caused by the PA and a current-limiting amplifier that prevents the PA from being overdriven in case of a high input signal level.The ADL5375-05SCPZEPR7 also includes a low-noise preamplifier that boosts the gain of the signal before it is amplified by the complex PA. This preamplifier also works to filter out noise as well as help reduce side-band noise and ensure higher linearity.The modulator also includes a temperature-compensated reference diode used to set the bias voltage of the PA.
