ADM6315-44D3ARTZRL belongs to the supervisory devices of Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) series. It is a reset based system supervisor. It suits various purposes, from pin-strapping to low cost microprocessors, by providing an accurate reset (in µs) for multiple power supplies in a single package.
This cost-effective chip provides an integrated Reset Power-On, Overvoltage, Power-On Reset with an additional Power-Down, Reverse Voltage, Power-On Delay and Power-Up functions in a compact 6-pin package.
The device offers precise monitoring of regulated voltage outputs with programmable threshold accuracy 1.5% within voltage range 4.1V to 5.5V. It has ±5% tolerances for both enable and disable, up to 7μs enable propagation time and up to 9μs disable propagation time.
It is capable of delivering signals to synchronize all processors on the overvoltage and the power up operations. This is achieved by the presence of Reset and Power Enable pins separately, that a user can avail of by programming the open-drain output register and the pull-up resistors accordingly.
It offers a wide operating temperature between -40°C to 85°C. This device provides an automatic software reset on a power-down or system reset and also it is able to handle sudden fluctuations in voltages, current and temperature.
The chip has an internal clock circuit with a preprogrammed frequency, providing accurate Timer Reset outputs to initiate or terminate a specific or a predetermined operation. It has a watchdog timer, which prevents system lock-up by checking the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal and generating a reset signal in the event of a malfunction or misbehaviour.
The chip has 2 separate Digital-to-Analog (D/A) converters, that is capable of feeding an analog signal from the input comparator to the digital output register, through which the precision of the output signal is obtained. This helps in determining the accuracy of the sensitivity of the chip, when compared to a manually programmed analog voltage reference.
The main application areas of ADM6315-44D3ARTZRL includes automation, test and measurement, consumer and industrial electronics, computer, automotive and consumer audio applications. This chip provides an optimal range of high accuracy supply voltage supervisor, which are mated with the corresponding adjustable ¼ resistor and fast comparator, providing effective protection against power outs, overvoltages, brownouts and transient voltage disruption.
The working principle of ADM6315-44D3ARTZRL is based on a monitoring and reset of the inputs. The device maintains a predefined threshold accuracy and detects the level of a power supply in comparison to its threshold voltage. The comparator circuit then signals the output registers, if there is an abnormality or deviation from predefined acceptable standards of a specified power supply. A reset is initiated from the output register and at the same time the watchdog timer is reset.
In addition, the device features an integrated features like temperature sensing circuit, that detects temperature levels above a predefined threshold before the device can actually be powered up. This chip also detects any over-currents or voltage surges, which would be above the normal operating level and reset the system accordingly.
