Power Management IC (PMIC) – Supervisors play a major role in control and management of power used in different electronic devices regardless of their scale. They ensure safe and adequate power supply throughout the system in the event of any voltage spike or any failure in the device operation. The ADM6711LAKS-REEL is an advanced single-channel supervisor IC designed specifically to fulfill system designer’s critical needs in respect to power supply.

ADM6711LAKS-REEL application field covers a range of industrial and consumer applications. Its feature of adjustable input voltage range makes it favorable in automotive, communication, computer and wireless application where variable power system than stable power supply. The supervisor can monitor the input voltage fluctuations and alert system with an active low reset and active high push button reset in case of any system errors. It provides time delayed interrupts to the host and provides indications of inappropriate system behavior.

The ADM6711LAKS-REEL also has two configurable signals for other monitoring and control tasks. The Supervisor allows wide range of input voltage from 3V to 5.25V and operates from 1.8V supply voltage. It also comes with open drain reset output and watchdog timer that can be set from 15ms to 2.2s. This observation of the supply voltage helps in managing the system power effectively.

The supervisor works on the basis of minimum and maximum operating voltage. It can latch up and generate reset if voltage differs from the given range. The accuracy of 0.2V ensures that even small input voltage changes in the system are observed by the device. The process gets initiated with an Alternating Current (AC) input which is then converted into Direct Current (DC) via rectifier and then fed to the supervisor IC.

The supervisor IC then monitors and compares the DC voltage with a reference voltage. If the input voltage is below or above the predetermined range, then a reset pulse is generated and the voltage is dropped to a level below the minimum operating voltage. In this way, the supervisor acts like a vigilance on the system.

Apart from the reset feature, the ADM6711LAKS-REEL supervisor also has a monitoring and circuitry to create audible alarms in case of any malfunctions or out of range operation. It also incorporates power management blocks to facilitate standby mode, off mode and deep sleep mode for better power utilization.

The ADM6711LAKS-REEL supervisor is available in an 8-pin SOIC , PDIP and MLF packages which are specifically designed for high temperature and to avoid thermal stress due to dynamic power dissipation. The device has an in-built POR circuit to perform the reset during power-up or power-down sequences and provides reliable system resetting.

The ADM6711LAKS-REEL supervisor IC is increasingly being used in automotive, medical and telecom industry. The ease of programming and reliability offered makes it an ideal IC for system designers.
