BLOCK A - ADM8699ARN Application Field and Working Principle
ADM8699ARN is a single-channel, independent, system power-on reset (POR) supervisor and reset generator designed for microprocessor, DSP, and microcontroller systems. It provides reliable power-on reset (POR) for microprocessor and DSP systems. It monitors the system power supply to detect power-on-reset (POR) condition. Once the power supply voltage reaches the preset level, the reset output drives the microcontroller reset pin and resets the microcontroller.
ADM8699ARN integrates independent power-on reset (POR) and watch-dog timer (WDT) circuits into a single chip. It features two watchdog timeout to detect any failures or errors in processing. When a failure or an error occurs, the microcontroller reset pin may be pulled low by the reset generator to reset the system.
BLOCK B - Working Principle
The working principle of the ADM8699ARN is based on the on-chip resistors which control the POR voltage threshold as well as the timeout period. The POR threshold is set by the external resistors and connected to the POR_THRESH pin. This pin sets the POR threshold voltage between 1.4V and 4.0V.
When the voltage of the system power supply drops below the POR threshold, the POR circuit pulls the POR/RST# signal low to toggle the reset pin of the microcontroller. The reset signal is then driven to the reset pin to reset the system after the timeout period.
The reset timeout period is programmed by the external resistors connected to the RST_TIME pin. The external capacitor connected to the RI pin sets the delay time to ensure that the reset signal is not activated before the power supply voltage reaches the POR threshold.
