Working Principle

The voltage regulator is based on a linear regulator principle and uses an internal pass transistor to control the output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by adjusting the circuit current drawn by a load by adjusting the reference voltage. This reference voltage is compared to an internal reference voltage. Depending on the feedback voltage difference, the pass transistor is turned on or off.

When the feedback voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the pass transistor is turned on, as this increases the current drawn by the load, thus increasing the output voltage. Conversely, when the feedback voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the pass transistor is turned off resulting in a decrease in current drawn by the load thus lowering the output voltage.
