The ADS5424HFG/EM Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) is a high-performance, high-speed and low power 24-bit sigma-delta (Σ-Δ) ADC. It features a maximum sampling speed of 2.5 MSPS and a low power consumption of <1.6 mW/channel at 2 MSPS in a small 8-Pin MSOP package. These advantages make the ADS5424HFG/EM suitable for diverse applications, such as telecommunication, industrial, consumer, audio and automotive systems.The internal architecture of the ADS5424HFG/EM ADC consists of two parts: a first-order Σ-Δ modulator and a decimation filter. The basic operation for analog-to-digital conversion is that the input signal is sampled by the modulator, which converts the signal into a series of discrete pulses varying in amplitude and width. The modulator also adds dither. The decimation filter then converts the pulse sequence into a 24-bit sample ready for external use. The modulator effectively computes the difference between the input signal and a reference voltage followed by a discretization process. The modulator takes one sample of the input signal and the reference voltage and computes the difference between the two values. The difference is then either incremented or decremented in order to generate the desired digital output. The decimation filter then takes the output of the modulator and converts it into a 24-bit digital word. The decimation filter also performs noise shaping on the signal, removing most of the noise present in the signal, resulting in a low noise signal and therefore a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).The ADS5424HFG/EM is well suited for applications which require excellent accuracy, low power consumption and high sampling rates.
