Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) is the process of converting the analog signals such as voltage, temperature, pressure and sound into a digital form. The digital signals can be further processed, manipulated and stored for efficient data acquisition and analysis. With the advent of modern industrial and commercial applications, this type of data acquisition and processing has become extremely important. The ADS7806PG4 is an example of a high-performance analog-to-digital converter, designed for low-power and low-cost applications.The ADS7806PG4 is a 12-bit resolution data acquisition system that integrates an analog-to-digital converter, a programmable gain amplifier, a digital encoder, a digital phase-locked loop (PLL) for data synchronization, and a selection of power supply configurations.The ADS7806PG4 has a dual-conversion process that allows it to use a single 12-bit current-sourced (R-2R) or voltage-sourced (VDD-GND) reference. The gains of the channel gain amplifiers (CGA) can be configured to provide the desired input signal range with a programmable range of 10-100 mV to 10V.The ADC\'s differential input range is configured by selecting two of four different gains at the ADCs inputs. Ranges between 0.3 and 10 V can be obtained by using the available digital gains.The ADS7806PG4 supports a wide variety of data acquisition options and features, including incremental and differential analog-to-digital conversion, 8 digital inputs for triggering and synchronizing, 8 analog differential inputs, 8 digital outputs for logic control, watchdog timer for communication failure detection, statistical mode for dynamic power savings, and power safe mode for power conservation.ADCs such as ADS7806PG4 enable a variety of applications, including video processing, digital medical imaging, automotive diagnostic systems, industrial process control, and laboratory instrumentation. They are also used in a variety of data acquisition and data communication applications. Additionally, they are suitable for any applications that require high performance, high accuracy, or fast conversion speeds.The ADS7806PG4 is a complete data acquisition system. It contains a continuous track and dedicated hardware to implement complete differential, single-ended, and incremental data acquisition modes. It is capable of achieving dissipation close to 2.9 mW and is suitable for use in low power, portable applications.The ADS7806PG4 includes a very low-noise sigma-delta ADC and a two stage reference amplifier. The reference amplifier has a high-efficiency device-to-device linearity of 0.00001 % and an overall accuracy of 0.005%. It supports an input sample-and-hold capability with a sampling rate of up to 500 kSps. The internal clock is user-configurable for a variety of frequencies and external clock input is available for operation up to 400MSps.The input and output ports can be connected either in a single-ended or differential mode for improved noise immunity. In addition to the input and output ports, the ADS7806PG4 includes an on-chip junction temperature measurement and a general-purpose input/output pin configured by the application.The ADS7806PG4 can be powered by two power supplies between 3.3V to 5.5V and has on-chip over-voltage protection. The on-chip power-on reset circuit allows the device to be used in low-power applications without sacrificing reliability.The ADS7806PG4 offers excellent technical performance and is ideal for low-power applications. With its wide variety of data acquisition capabilities, high sampling rate and low power consumption, the ADS7806PG4 is an excellent choice for applications such as video processing, digital medical imaging, automotive diagnostic systems, industrial process control, and laboratory instrumentation.
