Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are a type of integrated circuit (IC) designed to be programmed at a customer's site by the user after manufacture. An FPGA is a large programmable chip composed of multiple interconnected logic blocks. Each logic block contains several configurable logic elements and dedicated routing resources. FPGAs serve as a universal platform for the development of complex integrated systems in the embedded market.The AGLP060V5-CSG289I is a powerful mid-ranged FPGA from Xilinx. This device is an efficient and cost-effective solution for complex embedded designs requiring fast data processing and analysis. The AGLP060V5-CSG289I is a low-power FPGA with an integrated transceiver for serial protocol offload. The device is constructed in a low-profile 0.7-mil pitchBGA package.The AGLP060V5-CSG289I is based on the Virtex-5 FPGA architecture and has a maximum power consumption of 4.5 watts. This FPGA supports four high-speed transceivers operating up to 3.18 Gb/s, two LVDS differential buffers, two USB 2.0 ports, and two PCI Express x1 links. It also features two high-speed differential clocks, two internal clock multipliers, and nine independent clock output pins.This FPGA has a total usable logic gate count of 46K and measures 9.9mm x 10.6mm. The device features thirty-two dedicated memory blocks, which are composed of four RAM blocks, eight ROM blocks, and two expanded core blocks. Advanced power delivery, clock management, and I/O circuitry are also included on the device. The AGLP060V5-CSG289I also has a wide range of programmable functions, including: logic blocks, memory blocks, hard blocks such as multipliers and DSP blocks, embedded intelligence blocks (EIBs) such as soft processors, and high-speed transceiver blocks.The FPGA's logic blocks are composed of look-up tables (LUTs) and flip-flops. Each LUT is composed of four four-bit lookup tables and can be used to store and process four-bit data. Flip-flops are used to store single bits of data and can be configured as either synchronous or asynchronous design blocks.The AGLP060V5-CSG289I also features thirty-two dedicated memory blocks. These blocks can be used to store user data, program code, and other types of data. The four RAM blocks support configurations of up to 4k bits and can be used to store various kinds of data on the FPGA. The eight ROM blocks are organized into 4k-bit blocks and can be used to store program code that can be executed on the FPGA. The device also includes two high-speed transceiver blocks. These blocks can be used for fast data communications over a serial protocol. The two LVDS differential buffers are used to support transmission over a low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) protocol. The two USB 2.0 ports can be used to connect external USB devices to the FPGA.
