Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are capacitors which use an electrolytic material as an anode, with a non-conductive material separating it from a cathode. There are various types of electrolytic capacitors, all of which use aluminum oxide as a dielectric material. The ALS80G153NT350 is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor having a self-healing feature that automatically prevents dielectric breakdown. It was designed with superior performance through the implementation of a patented electrolyte film structure with a low internal resistance. It is applicable for many devices such as power converters, portable terminals and automotive systems.The structure of the ALS80G153NT350, like other aluminum electrolytic capacitors consists of an anode, dielectric material and cathode. The anode consists of aluminum foil which is tracked with special electrolyte. The dielectric material which is in between the anode and cathode is an oxide film and the cathode is a thin sheet of aluminum. The cathode and anode are then rolled together and placed in a cylindrical shape.When a voltage is applied to the two terminals of the ALS80G153NT350, the cathode is positive and the anode is negative. This causes the electrolyte to form an A-type Oxide film on the surface of the anode. The purpose of the oxide film is to decrease the effective current between the two terminals. This allows the device to store electrical charge in the gap for a long time.The ALS80G153NT350 has a unique feature called self-healing. This feature is based on the property of a dielectric which can automatically prevent dielectric breakdown. When voltage more than the rated value at the terminals is applied by external occurrence, the oxide film at the anode part of the capacitor is broken electrically. During this process, a small amount of gas (O2) and heat are generated. The instantaneous voltage is returned to normal due to the reset of the oxide film, and a voltage drop is not caused. This is the specialty of self-healing.The ALS80G153NT350 is applicable for many types of devices, and is most commonly used in power converters, portable terminals, and automotive systems. It is an excellent device for providing a stable output voltage due to its low internal resistance.
