AP1150ADS30 application field and working principleAP1150ADS30 is a linear voltage regulator from the PMIC-Voltage Regulators-Linear series which is designed for embedded applications in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and PDAs. This product features embedded 0.9Ω low resistance switches and its output is adjustable within a wide range from 0.35V to 4.2V. The low quiescent current of 3uA and the low shutdown current of 0.4uA make it an ideal solution for battery-powered applications with tight space constraints and high efficiency.AP1150ADS30 also features a maximum output current of 600mA, a maximum dropout voltage of 0.3V, and a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It also has short-circuit protection, over-temperature protection and over-voltage protection built-in.The working principle of AP1150ADS30 is based on the classic linear voltage regulator design. It comprises of a power supply input, control circuitry, a pass transistor and an output capacitor. The input of the power supply is rectified and filtered to provide a DC voltage. This is then compared with the output voltage in the control circuitry and a voltage difference signal is generated. This signal is used to drive the pass transistor which functions as a variable resistor in series with the output capacitor to regulate the voltage. The output capacitor also provides a steady flow of current to the load and smooths out the pulses in the signal.The high output current capability, wide adjustable output voltage range and built-in short-circuit protection and temperature stability make AP1150ADS30 a great choice for battery-powered embedded applications.
