The AP1521WG-7 employs a patented constant-current-mode (CC Mode) technique to control LED string current. The working principle of this LED driver is as follows. The VOUT voltage of the device is controlled by an integrated analog voltage feedback loop. The external signal (I) is used as a reference current to control the output voltage. When the VOUT drops below the reference voltage, the VFB voltage is greater than VOUT, which in turn causes the internal driver switch to increase its conduction time, thus increasing the output current. Conversely, when VOUT is greater then VFB, the internal driver switch reduces its conduction time, resulting in decrease in the output current.In addition to the CC Mode, the AP1521WG-7 uses a patented Constant-Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) technique, to regulate the output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by switching the MOSFETs on and off in an even cycle, allowing the inductor to store a certain amount of energy and sending it to the output capacitor whenever the MOSFETS are off. This loop allows to keep the output voltage stable and regulated at the desired level.The AP1521WG-7 further features multiple protection features such as under-voltage-lock-out (UVLO), over-temperature protection (OTP) and output short-circuit protection.
