The AP3401DNTR-G1 is a single-stage, synchronous, Constant-Frequency Switching Regulator (CFSR) designed for use in wide input voltage and low output voltage applications. The CFSR topology enables the AP3401DNTR-G1 to deliver up to 6A continuous current with a high degree of efficiency and ripple-free output current without requiring a heat sink. Additionally, the AP3401DNTR-G1 offers additional features such as low standby current, programmable slew rate, adjustable peak current and soft start.
The AP3401DNTR-G1 application field is mostly applicable to various miniaturized electronic devices including mobile phones, tablet PCs and electronic toys as well as automotive applications. The high level of efficiency, low ripple output, high speed transient response and low power consumption makes the AP3401DNTR-G1 suitable for a variety of applications.
The working principle of the AP3401DNTR-G1 is based on a single-stage conversion of an input voltage, typically the USB 5V rail, to an output voltage, depending on the application. A power transistor is used to directly modulate the output voltage from the input. The integrated PWM controller compares the output voltage to an internal reference voltage and modulates the power transistor current to maintain the desired output voltage. The integration of the low RDS(ON) power MOSFET and the PWN controller lengthens the power circuit and yields high efficiency.
The AP3401DNTR-G1 integrates a slew rate control function to limit the peak current during start-up. This prevents the output voltage from dropping due to the inrush current at the start-up or during the load transient. Additionally, it can reduce the input surge(Inrush Current) and EMI noise. The AP3401DNTR-G1 also has soft-start and integrated loop compensation, allowing for an easy as well as fast design.
The AP3401DNTR-G1 also offers a programmable output enable function, allowing for a user specified enable/disable signal for the output voltage. In addition, the enable/disable signal has a power down feature, wherein the IC will shut off the power output when the input voltage is lower than 3V.
