This is particularly useful in systems with analog and digital components that require multiple regulated supply voltages.Working PrincipleThe AP7343D-13FS4-7B consists of an internal voltage reference, error amplifier, and a series pass element. The reference voltage is set by the voltage divider string connected to the Adjust pin. The Error Amplifier compares the output voltage to the Reference Voltage, and then adjusts the pass element accordingly. The pass element then allows current to flow through the output, thus adjusting the output voltage to the desired level.The pass element of the AP7343D-13FS4-7B is a CMOS controlled switch. During normal operation, the switch is open, passing no current to the output. When the Error Amplifier detects a voltage difference between the reference and the output, it will open or close the switch depending on the direction of the difference. This then allows current to pass through the switch, thus adjusting the output voltage.The AP7343D-13FS4-7B also provides for temperature protection. The maximum junction temperature of the device is specified and an internal temperature detector senses the temperature of the pass element and shuts off the device if an over-temperature condition is detected.
