PMIC - Voltage Regulators - LinearThe AP7380-44WR-7 is a linear voltage regulator that provides precision voltage regulation and can withstand a wide range of input voltages. It is a small package operated voltage regulator, providing excellent line and load regulation characteristics. It is ideal for use in consumer and automotive applications, such as battery-powered devices, phones, and vehicular applications.The AP7380-44WR-7 is a 3A low dropout linear voltage regulator specifically designed to offer dropout voltages as low as 45mV. It is based on on-chip voltage reference, bandgap reference and error amplifier with an output voltage of 5V ± 2% over a wide range of temperature and line. Its low quiescent current (15mA max) and low dropout voltage make the AP7380-44WR-7 perfect for applications where low power consumption is desired.The AP7380-44WR-7 features wide input (2.2V to 17V) and output (4V to 7V) voltage ranges. It also has a built-in current limit, thermal overload protection, and reverse battery protection to protect the device from overload conditions. It can accurately output the regulated voltage even if the input voltage is above the output voltage. It is a pin-to-pin compatible with other fixed output voltage regulators, including the AP7380-44WL-7 and AP7380-52WL-7. The operating principle of the AP7380-44WR-7 is based on its internal error amplifier, which is connected at its output node. This error amplifier measures the output voltage relative to its intended value. If the output voltage deviates from the specified value, it will cause the error amplifier to generate an error voltage to the internal reference pin. The voltage references measures this error voltage and then adjusts the output current to the internal pass transistor\'s gate in order to raise or lower the output voltage to the desired value.To supply the pass transistor with adequate bias for normal operation and temperature compensation, the AP7380-44WR-7 has two internal voltage references. The first voltage reference is a standard bandgap reference, providing approximately 1.25V or 1.5V of output voltage. The second reference is a technique called PNP laser trimmed bandgap reference that is incorporated into the device to provide a second voltage reference. It has a lower voltage output, usually around 0.9V.In addition, the AP7380-44WR-7 is designed to provide excellent line regulation and load regulation characteristics, as well as low temperature coefficient. Line regulation is achieved by providing an output voltage that remains close to the preset value, even if there is a large variation in the input voltage. The device also features output voltage tracking, enabling a supply voltage of similar magnitude to be applied to both the device and the load, allowing the output voltage of the device to track the voltage applied to the load.In summary, the AP7380-44WR-7 is a 3A low dropout linear voltage regulator that is perfect for applications where low power consumption is desired.
