Working Principle

The AP7346D-3330FS6-7 is a linear voltage regulator, which operates on the basic principle of supplying a fixed output voltage regardless of the input voltage or load.In a linear voltage regulator, a pass transistor is placed in series between the input voltage and the output voltage. The pass transistor acts as a variable resistor whose resistance is regulated by the amount of current supplied to the base of the transistor. The base current is supplied to the transistor by an error amplifier, which monitors the output voltage and compares it to the reference voltage. When the output voltage deviates from the reference voltage, the error amplifier provides additional or reduced base current, thus changing the resistance of the pass transistor, and thus adjusting the output voltage to match the reference voltage.Since the linear voltage regulator operates on the principle of varying the resistance of the pass transistor, it dissipates a small amount of power in the form of heat.
