Solid State Relays: AQV104 application field and working principle

Solid state relays (SSRs) are electronic devices that act as a switch to control the flow of electricity without any mechanical operation. They are used for various control applications, such as turning on and off electrical heaters, pumps, fans, and motors. Furthermore, SSRs are used for controlling high-power loads due to their small size and robust construction. AQV104 is a type of solid state relay, developed by Finders Electronics Ltd, which is used to control the AC induction motor. The product has an operational voltage of 0-460VAC and its output power is up to 10A. It consists of a zero-cross opto-coupler with photocoupler diode, an MOSFET and base drive circuit. The AQV104 is suitable for use in inverters and power factor correction applications.

AQV104 comes with a special feature of a delay time setting to enable easy control of starting and stopping an AC induction motor. This feature allows the load to be gradually ramped up or down for increased safety and to reduce the mechanical stress of the motor when switching. The user can set the delay time according to the motor\'s load requirement.

The working principle of the AQV104 is based on triggered operation. Triggered operation is a type of operation where the output device is controlled by a voltage or current applied to its trigger input. This trigger input is the input signal of AQV104, which controls the AC power source of the induction motor. The trigger signal can come from a variety of different input sources, such as switches, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), timers, and thermistors.

When the trigger signal is applied to the AQV104, the input signal activates the zero-cross opto-coupler with photocoupler diode, where the voltage is rectified. The rectified signal is then amplified and applied to the MOSFET which activates the base drive circuit. The base drive circuit then activates the AC power source of the induction motor.

The alternating current passes through the motor winding and produces a rotary motion, which in turn drives the motor\'s load. The alternating current also produces magnetic field which keeps the AQV104 turned on until the trigger signal is removed. Once the trigger signal is removed, the AQV104 deactivates and the AC power supply to the motor is stopped.

AQV104 solid state relays are advantageous due to their high control accuracy, low maintenance requirements, and long life expectancy. Furthermore, the AQV104 relays are also highly reliable, as they are designed with input voltage protection and overheating protection features.
