AS1331-BTDT-AD Application Field and Working Principle
AS1331-BTDT-AD, a DC-DC switching regulator, is widely used in different application field, such as consumer, automotive and industrial electronics. This product is featured with features such as high efficiency, low standby power, simple control interface and adjustable output voltage.
The AS1331-BTDT-AD power circuit consists of a Pulse Width Modulated Controller, a Constant on Time (COT) controller, a high-side MOSFET, a low-side MOSFET and two inductors. The controllers receive voltage feedback from the outputs and adjust the duty cycle to keep the output within a preset range. The power is converted from a high voltage input to a low voltage output.
To begin with, the pulse width modulation controller regulates the pulse width according to the feedback of the output voltage and uses the inductor to change the passage of the current in a given cycle. This current creates an oscillation which is amplified by the feedback and shaped by the duty cycle of the PWM controller. The duty cycle is determined by the duty cycle of the PWM. The duty cycle of the PWM and the constant-on time determine the frequency of the oscillator and this frequency determines the voltage of the output.
The second stage is the constant-on time (COT) controller. The COT takes the voltage output from the first stage and creates a reference voltage that is compared to the voltage feedback from the output. If the output voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the COT increases the duty cycle of the PWM and the output voltage increases. Conversely, if the output voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the COT decreases the duty cycle of the PWM and the output voltage decreases. The COT continuously monitors the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle as needed.
The high-side MOSFET and low-side MOSFET control the switching of the output voltage. The MOSFETs act as switches that turn the inductor on and off, thus creating the current between the input and output. As the duty cycle of the PWM and COT are adjusted, the current on the low side MOSFET will be turned on or off creating a ripple effect which is responsible for creating the output voltage.
The AS1331-BTDT-AD DC-DC switching regulator offers great performance, a simple control interface and adjustable output voltage. The PWM controller and COT controller, together with the MOSFETs, support constant voltage and constant current operations, allow for flexible operation and are suitable for a wide range of applications such as automotive, industrial and consumer applications.
