Working Principle
The AS1359-BTTT-25 regulator operates by comparing the level of the control voltage at the input with a reference voltage set by the user. When the input voltage exceeds the reference voltage, the regulator will shut off its output by driving a P-channel MOSFET. The MOSFET has a relatively low on-resistance, minimizing wasted energy. During normal operation, the MOSFET is open, allowing the input voltage to be regulated down to its programmed level.
To regulate the output current, the circuit utilizes an internal error amplifier to detect changes in the output voltage. If the output voltage increases or decreases by more than a given amount, the amplifier will reduce or increase the gate voltage of the regulation MOSFET, respectively, until the output voltage returns to its programmed level. This process is called "foldback current limitation" as the MOSFET will adjust the current going through it to maintain the set output voltage.
The AS1359-BTTT-25 regulator also features a "Thermal Protection" feature. When the device’s temperature reaches a certain level (120C), the internal thermal sensor will shut off the output. This feature ensures that the regulator does not become over-heated and damaged.
