AS1337A-BTDT is a highly integrated DC-DC switching regulator which is typically used in power management applications. It has a sophisticated power management scheme that enables high efficiency and system flexibility over a wide load and input voltage range. Its wide input power range makes it an optimal choice for power management applications that require flexibility in input source and system load changes.
The AS1337A-BTDT integrates a current mode PWM controller, low-side driver, and high-side driver which are factory-trimmed for operation over the widest range of supply and load conditions. This integrated voltage regulator also includes a low-noise LDO linear regulator, and provides up to 80% efficiency. The integrated transformer provides galvanic isolation and allows AC-coupled outputs for easy system integration.
The AS1337A-BTDT successfully meets most desktop, laptop, workstation and embedded application requirements. The working principle of the AS1337A-BTDT is based on a hysteretic Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) technique (pushed-pull topology) which uses extended MOSFETs. The hystereticPWM technique eliminates internal oscillator, sense and compensation components and enables the AS1337A-BTDT to provide faster transient responses and the possibility of improved system performance.
It converts a low-voltage, continuous input voltage into a specific DC output voltage. It is equipped with a unique current-mode PWM controller, an integrated low-side MOSFET and an integrated high-side MOSFET for high-frequency, high-efficiency DC-DC conversion. The units provide continuous, controlled ON/OFF switching of the power MOSFETs and thus minimize losses resulting in higher efficiency.
The AS1337A-BTDT can operate in one of two modes to meet the needs of various designs: continuous or discontinuous (pulse-skip) mode. It also provides a power-saving feature calledBurst Mode, which shifts from forced PWM to Pulse-Skip Mode during light load, lowering the quiescent current to improve overall efficiency.
In continuous mode, the device continuously switches at the selected frequency, with gate-threshold voltage, offset, and low-side gate drive being set by an embedded trim for optimal performance. In pulse-skip mode, the device switches at a half-period to reduce losses. This reduces the power consumption as well as dissipated heat during low-load conditions.
The PWM controller is coupled to two input pins, (SYNC and VCC), which allow synchronization of the switching frequency on multiple modules. The device requires only power and a clock. With only 4 external components, the entire system can be designed with a minimal number of components.
The AS1337A-BTDT can be used in conjunction with other PMICs in systems with multiple power supplies. Its low-noise linear regulator and low switching power loss makes it an ideal choice for a wide variety of high-current and high-voltage applications. Its wide operating temperatures range and inrush-current limiting features make it an excellent choice for embedded systems in automotive and industrial applications.
